DJI Neo 2 Review: 155 Grams, No Controller Needed, and a Real Battery Test

I finally picked up the DJI Neo 2 and put it through its paces in a real outdoor environment. Here is everything I found out about the combo package, day-to-day usability, and how the battery actually holds up.
What Comes in the Combo Package?
I went with the combo option, which includes:
- The DJI Neo 2 body
- 3 batteries
- 2 spare propellers
Having three batteries is a genuine advantage for anyone shooting on location without easy access to a power outlet.
Why I Chose the DJI Neo 2
Weight
The main reason was the weight. Without a battery the drone is around 105 grams; with one battery attached it comes to 155 grams. Something this light can realistically slip into a jacket pocket or daypack.
No Controller, No App Required
The second deciding factor was that the Neo 2 can be powered on and launched without a remote controller or a smartphone app. You turn it on with a press-and-hold, read the current flight mode from the small screens on the front panel, and navigate settings with three side buttons — two for scrolling through menus and one to confirm.
How the Follow Mode Works
Once the drone lifts from your hand it locks on to you and stays locked. It does not drift to another person's face just because someone walks by — a detail that matters in busy environments.
There is one notable limitation, though: tight, inside-angle turns can break the lock. If you take wider, sweeping turns the drone keeps up without issue. For activities with sharp corners — think trail running or cycling through bends — this is worth factoring in.
Outdoor Flight Test
I flew the drone around my house while both walking and running. The environment was far from empty:
- Pine trees and overhanging branches
- Other trees
- Buildings of varying heights
- Balcony overhangs
Despite all of that, the drone performed well. At walking pace I noticed minor hiccups only at corners. Once I started running, as long as I kept my turns wide the follow shot remained smooth.
Battery Life
The flight lasted 8 minutes and consumed roughly 50 percent of the battery. Extrapolating from that, a realistic single-battery flight time is around 15 minutes.
Landing
To end the flight, simply extend your open palm and the drone descends and lands in your hand.
Price
I purchased the combo package from Amazon for approximately 18,000 TL spread across nine installments. Whether that feels reasonable will depend on your use case, but it sits in a competitive spot for this size of drone.
Who Is This For?
The DJI Neo 2 makes most sense for:
- People who do not want to carry a controller or keep their phone out
- Anyone wanting to document walks, runs, or everyday activities hands-free
- Users for whom portability is the top priority
If your activities involve sharp, tight turns, or if you need flights longer than 15 minutes per battery, it is worth looking at larger options before committing.
